The Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya West, Hon. Gizella Tetteh, has called for calm following a violent confrontation between students of Obrachire Senior High School and Swedru School of Business (SWESBUS).
The clash, which occurred during a recent inter-school competition in Agona Swedru, has resulted in an indefinite suspension of all inter-school sporting activities across the Central Region.
During a visit to the Obrachire SHS campus to address the student body, the legislator urged the students to refrain from retaliatory actions while official investigations proceed.
”We must prioritize the safety of our students. Until a full investigation is completed and security protocols are reviewed, all regional inter-school competitions are banned,” the MP stated.
The unrest was allegedly triggered when students from Swedru School of Business began throwing stones at the Obrachire contingent.
The situation escalated rapidly, with viral videos circulating online showing the chaos that left three Obrachire students injured.
Sergeant Ayesu, the Head of Cadet Staff at Obrachire SHS, provided an update on the victims to the media.
One student has been treated and discharged.
Two students remain under medical observation but are reported to be in stable condition and expected to make a full recovery.
The incident has been formally reported to the police and educational authorities.
Sergeant Ayesu confirmed that an investigation is underway to identify the primary provocateurs of the violence.
Local authorities and school boards are scheduled to meet later this week to determine disciplinary measures and discuss the long-term future of inter-school competitions in the region.
