Mfantsipim School has celebrated the achievements and contributions of distinguished alumni, dedicated staff members and corporate partners at a special awards and fundraising dinner marking its 150th anniversary.
The ceremony, held on Saturday, October 31, 2026, brought together prominent old boys, government representatives, corporate executives, institutional partners and other invited guests to commemorate the historic milestone and mobilise financial support for the school’s development agenda.
The event provided an opportunity to recognise individuals whose professional accomplishments, public service and commitment to education have helped promote the school’s reputation and longstanding traditions.
Among the personalities honoured was the Executive Chairman of KGL Group, Alex Apau Dadey, who received two awards in recognition of his contributions and partnership with the institution.
Mr Dadey was presented with the Partner of Impact Award, alongside a special category honour acknowledging his support and contributions towards Mfantsipim School.
Several other individuals were recognised for their outstanding service and achievements across different professional fields.
Mr Solomon Kweku Afful received the Outstanding Teaching Staff Award, while Mrs Constance Odur was honoured as the Outstanding Non-Teaching Staff member.
The Education Impact Award was presented to Kwame Dapaah-Afriyie for his contribution to the education sector.
In the academic and research category, Prof. Albert Kwadwo Adu Boahen received the Distinguished Alumnus Award for Academia and Research.
George Quaye was also recognised for his accomplishments in the creative industry, receiving the award for Arts and Cultural Excellence.
The late Rt. Hon. Prof. Kofi Abrefa Busia was honoured posthumously in the Public Service and Governance category, in recognition of his legacy in public leadership and governance.
Meanwhile, Mr Frank Ivan Adama Tackie received the Distinguished Alumnus Award for Business and Entrepreneurship.
Beyond celebrating the achievements of individuals and institutions, the anniversary dinner was also designed to raise funds to support Mfantsipim’s long-term development plans.
A major feature of the evening was a live auction involving selected artworks, a limited collection of 10 specially designed Caveman Watches produced for the anniversary and a Collector’s Edition of the school’s 150th Anniversary Anthology.
Funds generated from the auction are expected to contribute to projects aimed at preserving the school’s heritage while improving its infrastructure and supporting its future development objectives.
The fundraising initiative formed part of the broader activities marking the institution’s 150 years of educational service.
The celebration also featured musical performances by Ghanaian artistes Sefa and Efya, adding entertainment to an evening characterised by awards, fundraising and reflections on the school’s history.
The Deputy Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr Justice Srem-Sai, and the Okuapemhene, Oseadeeyo Kwasi Akuffo III, were among the prominent personalities who attended the gathering.
Corporate institutions KGL Group and Margins Group were acknowledged as the principal sponsors of the event.
The anniversary gala formed part of Mfantsipim School’s wider celebrations of its 150th anniversary, marking a significant chapter in the history of one of Ghana’s longstanding educational institutions.
Since its establishment in 1876, Mfantsipim has played a notable role in shaping generations of students who have gone on to serve in leadership positions across politics, academia, business, public administration and other sectors.
The awards dinner therefore served not only as a platform to celebrate individual accomplishments but also as an opportunity to renew collective commitment towards sustaining the institution’s legacy.
As the school looks towards the next phase of its development, the anniversary fundraising initiative is expected to provide additional support for infrastructure and other projects aimed at strengthening its contribution to education and national development.
