The newly elected constituency executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ekumfi Constituency of the Central Region have criticised the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), accusing it of failing to deliver the level of development promised to residents ahead of the 2024 general elections.
Speaking after their election, the executives expressed concern over what they described as the slow pace of development in the constituency, insisting that many communities have yet to benefit from the government’s campaign pledges.
According to them, residents are increasingly becoming frustrated because several promises made by the NDC during the election campaign remain unfulfilled months after the party assumed office.
The executives alleged that a number of communities in Ekumfi continue to grapple with poor road networks, inadequate social amenities, youth unemployment and other developmental challenges despite repeated assurances from the government.
They argued that the pace of implementation of ongoing projects has not met the expectations of constituents, who had anticipated significant improvements following the change in government.
The party executives, however, expressed confidence that the NPP would regain the confidence of voters ahead of the 2028 general elections.
They said the party’s strategy would focus on strengthening its grassroots structures, promoting unity among members and intensifying engagement with residents to recapture the Ekumfi parliamentary seat.
Addressing party supporters after his election, the newly elected NPP Constituency Chairman for Ekumfi, Nana Kwesi Nyame, appealed to executives at all levels, polling station officers and party faithful to put aside their differences and work together towards a common goal.
He stressed that unity, discipline and teamwork would be essential if the party was to return to power in the constituency in 2028.
“Our focus must be on rebuilding the party from the grassroots. We must remain united and committed because division will only weaken our chances in the next election,” he said.
While maintaining that development in the constituency has been slower than expected, Nana Kwesi Nyame acknowledged that some government projects have commenced.
He, however, urged the Member of Parliament for Ekumfi, Hon. Dr. Othniel Ekow Kwainoe, and the NDC government to accelerate the execution of ongoing projects and fulfil the commitments made to the people during the election campaign.
The chairman said residents deserve improved infrastructure, better social services and more employment opportunities, adding that the government must ensure that the needs of the constituency are addressed without delay.
The NPP executives reiterated their commitment to working tirelessly to strengthen the party in Ekumfi and position it for victory in the 2028 parliamentary elections.
