The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has overturned the disqualification of Mr. Eric Kwesi Taylor, officially clearing him to contest the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa Constituency Chairman position ahead of the party’s upcoming constituency executive elections.
The decision was taken by the party’s National Steering Committee after it reviewed a petition submitted by Mr. Taylor, who challenged his earlier disqualification by the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa Constituency Elections Committee.
Mr. Taylor had argued that his disqualification was unfair and not supported by any justifiable grounds under the party’s election rules and regulations.
He subsequently petitioned the National Steering Committee, requesting a review of the decision in accordance with the guidelines governing the conduct of the constituency executive elections.
Following deliberations at its meeting on Monday, July 6, 2026, the National Steering Committee ruled in his favour.
In an official memorandum signed by Acting National Chairman, Danquah Buttey Smith, the committee directed the Central Regional Steering Committee, the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa Constituency Elections Committee, the Constituency Executive Committee, and the District Electoral Officer to immediately implement the decision and formally clear Mr. Taylor to participate in the election.
The memorandum stated that the committee had considered Mr. Taylor’s petition submitted under the Rules and Regulations for the Conduct of the Constituency Executive Committee Elections and resolved that he be reinstated as a candidate.
It further instructed all relevant party structures to take the necessary steps to give immediate effect to the decision and ensure full compliance with the directives of the National Steering Committee.
Reacting to the ruling, Mr. Taylor expressed appreciation to the National Steering Committee, describing the outcome as fair, transparent, and a demonstration of the party’s commitment to internal democracy.
He said the decision had restored his confidence in the party’s internal dispute resolution mechanisms and pledged to conduct a clean, peaceful and issue-based campaign throughout the election period.
Mr. Taylor also expressed optimism about winning the constituency chairmanship, saying his leadership would focus on rebuilding and strengthening the party’s grassroots structures across the constituency.
According to him, his vision is to unite members, restore confidence within the constituency, and reposition the NPP to reclaim the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa parliamentary seat from the National Democratic Congress in the 2028 general elections.
He appealed to party delegates, supporters and executives to put aside their differences and work together in the interest of the party, stressing that unity, effective grassroots mobilisation and collective commitment would be essential to the NPP’s electoral fortunes in the constituency.
The National Steering Committee’s ruling effectively brings to an end the controversy surrounding Mr. Taylor’s eligibility and clears the way for him to participate in the forthcoming Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa Constituency Executive Committee elections.
