A section of New Patriotic Party (NPP) members in the Akyem Swedru constituency has raised red flags over the party’s ongoing membership registration, calling for a halt of the exercise.
The aggrieved members have accused constituency executives, specifically the Secretary, Mr. Daniel Antri, of interfering in the process allegedly in direct violation of guidelines set by the National Executive Committee (NEC).
The group claims Mr. Antri has schemed and connived with other executives who have declared their intention to re-contest in the upcoming constituency elections to compromise the exercise.
These executives are alleged to have denied certain individuals the opportunity to register at Akyem Apoli and other communities, rather than allowing mandated polling station executives to lead the process as stipulated in the party’s internal guidelines.

An alleged tape intercepted by the group suggests that these executives have even threatened to expunge names from the register, even if those individuals successfully manage to register.
The NPP recently began a nationwide membership registration and reorganization exercise to update its database ahead of crucial internal elections.
The exercise, scheduled to end on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, is intended to ensure an accurate and credible register for polling station, constituency, regional, and national levels.
Speaking at a press briefing in Akyem Swedru, the spokesperson for the aggrieved members, Nana Ofosu Afrifa, described the ongoing exercise as illegal, stressing that the local process has been deeply compromised.
”The Regional and National leadership should, with immediate effect, suspend every activity being undertaken by the constituency executives in this registration exercise and declare all actions since March 3, 2026, null and void,” Afrifa stated.
The group is requesting that the National and Regional party bodies declare the current constituency executives “unfit” to oversee the process due to a glaring conflict of interest.
To restore integrity to the process, they are calling for an independent body from the Regional or National level to collect and manage member data.
The immediate publication of a registration timetable across all 53 polling stations so members know exactly when and where to register.

Nana Ofosu Afrifa issued a stern warning, giving the party leadership 48 hours to address these concerns.
He cautioned that if the issues are ignored, the group will legally and procedurally confront the constituency executives at every polling station a move they admit could lead to significant unrest.
”In order to prevent Akyem Swedru from making national headlines for the wrong reasons, we call on the leadership to ensure a fair, credible, and seamless exercise that is acceptable to all,” Afrifa added.
The aggrieved members have also appealed to the National Executives to issue a caveat to the Member of Parliament (MP), Hon. Kennedy Nyarko Osei, to desist from masterminding the registration exercise before the situation further erodes the party’s unity in the constituency.
