As the New Patriotic Party (NPP) prepares to restructure its leadership for the 2028 electoral cycle, the former Member of Parliament for Dormaa West, Hon. Ali Maiga Halidu, has officially declared his intention to run for the position of National Organizer.
Addressing the media at a press conference, Halidu emphasized that the party’s success hinges on a leadership style that prioritizes “competence over rhetoric” and the “grassroots over the elite.”
Halidu’s campaign is centered on a “bottom-up” organizational philosophy.
He argued that to secure victory in the 2028 General Elections, the party must re-energize its base at the polling station level.
”The NPP needs a strong, grassroots-oriented person to ginger the party from the polling station level all the way to the national level,” Halidu stated.
“Organizing a party isn’t just about the headquarters; it’s about the foot soldiers who defend our colors in every corner of this country.”
He further entreated delegates to vote massively for his candidacy, framing his leadership as the essential engine needed to support Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia in retaining power for the NPP.
The launch gained significant momentum with the backing of Hon. Abena Osei-Asare, the Member of Parliament for Atiwa East and former Deputy Finance Minister.
Speaking at the event, Osei-Asare urged delegates to look toward Halidu’s proven track record, highlighting several key reasons for her support:
Political Expertise: His extensive experience as a former legislator gives him a unique understanding of both parliamentary and party dynamics.
Accessibility: His reputation as a “man of the people” allows him to bridge the gap between national leadership and local activists.

With the “Breaking the 8” mantra remaining the focal point of the NPP’s internal discourse, the race for National Organizer is expected to be one of the most contested.
