The quiet farming community of Awutu Bentum, near Bontrase, has been plunged into a state of shock and mourning following the gruesome murder of a young woman, allegedly at the hands of her boyfriend, a local fetish priest.
The grisly crime came to light after a local farmer noticed a foul stench emanating from a section of his farm.
Following the scent, residents discovered a shallow, disturbed grave in a nearby bush.
Upon the arrival of the Jei-Krodua District Police, the body was exhumed, revealing a scene of unimaginable cruelty.
The victim, a woman believed to be in her early 20s, had been decapitated.
Investigators further noted that her breasts, private parts, and several internal organs had been removed.
The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Hlorlary Cudjoe, a practicing fetish priest in the area, was immediately linked to the disappearance of the woman, who was known to be his girlfriend.
Community members allege that Cudjoe murdered the victim to harvest her body parts for ritual purposes to “serve his gods.”
The suspect was apprehended by a group of vigilant community members and handed over to the police for further investigation.
The discovery sparked immediate outrage among the youth and elders of Awutu Bentum.
In an act of spontaneous communal justice, the suspect’s residence was set ablaze, and his shrine and ritual artifacts were burned to the ground.
Security has since been heightened in the area to prevent further retaliatory violence.
The Assemblyman for the Awutu Bontrase Electoral Area, Prince Larbie, expressed deep concern over the rising insecurity in the district.
Speaking to the media, he lamented that this is the second recorded incident of extreme violence in the locality within a single week.
”The community is in fear; we are calling on the police to ensure that justice is served swiftly to deter others.
This level of inhumanity has no place in our society,” Larbie stated.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at a morgue for autopsy.
Hlorlary Cudjoe remains in police custody and is expected to be arraigned before a court on charges of murder as soon as preliminary investigations are concluded.
