In a remarkable display of community spirit, petty traders plying their trade along the Nsawam New Road and the Adeiso Overhead have stepped up to support the SK Darko Gracious Foundation.
Despite the daily challenges of trading under the scorching sun, these men and women mobilized resources to provide essential supplies and financial aid to the foundation, located at Nsawam Coaltar Anfaso.
The traders, led by Madam Dufie and Sister Akos, presented a variety of items to the home, including loaves of bread and fried turkey
Hausa Koko and assorted food items, sachet and bottled water and undisclosed cash donation.
”This presentation is aimed at supporting the home’s efforts to cater for these children,” the leaders noted during the handover.
The SK Darko Gracious Foundation currently supports 65 children (37 girls and 28 boys).
The facility operates its own school from Kindergarten to Class 6.
The foundation’s commitment to education extends beyond its walls as students who complete Class 6 attend external JHS programs but return to the foundation for shelter, meals, and care.
The home currently sponsors students at prestigious institutions, including St. Peter’s SHS (Kwahu-Nkwatia), Krobo Girls SHS, Asesewa SHS, and the Mozano College of Music.
While the foundation is expanding, it faces a significant bottleneck.
A new dormitory designed to house over 100 children is currently under construction but remains uncompleted.
Founder Samuel Kwapong Darko expressed his profound gratitude to the traders, noting the irony that those who work in the most difficult conditions were the ones to offer help.
”These traders sell under the scorching sun, yet they mobilized to support these children.
Their sacrifice will not go to waste,” Mr. Darko said.
He issued an urgent plea to individuals, corporate bodies, and NGOs to assist in roofing the uncompleted dormitory.
Beyond infrastructure, the founder also highlighted a pressing need for new school uniforms for the children.
