The Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North, Kwame Ohene Frimpong, has reportedly been detained at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
The development was made public by the Clerk to Parliament, Ebenezer Djietror, in a Facebook post shared on May 12.
According to the statement, Parliament has been informed about the detention of the legislator at the airport, with leadership of the House already engaging Ghana’s diplomatic mission in The Hague to gather more details surrounding the incident.
“The Rt Hon Speaker and the Leadership of the House are in touch with Ghana’s Mission in The Hague for detailed information on the matter.
The public will be duly informed appropriately on this matter,” the statement indicated.
Details regarding the circumstances leading to the detention have not yet been officially disclosed.
Kwame Ohene Frimpong entered Parliament after emerging victorious in the 2024 parliamentary elections as an independent candidate.
His victory was widely seen as a major upset after he defeated incumbent MP Andy Kwame Appiah-Kubi.
Aside from politics, Frimpong is also known as an entrepreneur.
He is a native of Agogo in the Ashanti Region and began his education at Cosmos Preparatory School in Lapaz, Accra.
He later attended Aggrey Memorial A.M.E. Zion Senior High School before pursuing higher education at Central University.
He furthered his studies in the United Kingdom at The College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London.
