Parliament will hold an additional sitting on Saturday, July 25, 2026, as lawmakers work to clear a backlog of parliamentary business before the House adjourns for recess.
The announcement was made by the Majority Leader and Chairman of the Business Committee, Mahama Ayariga, while presenting the Business Statement for the tenth week of Parliament.
According to him, the extra sitting has become necessary to enable Members of Parliament to continue deliberations on the Mid-Year Review of the 2026 Budget Statement and Economic Policy after its presentation by the Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, on Thursday, July 23, 2026.
The Mid-Year Budget Review is expected to provide an update on the country’s economic performance during the first half of the year and outline the government’s fiscal outlook and policy adjustments for the remainder of the 2026 financial year.
Hon. Ayariga also drew attention to the heavy workload currently before Parliament, revealing that 486 referrals are pending before 27 parliamentary committees for consideration and reporting to the House.
He urged committee chairpersons to expedite work on the outstanding referrals to ensure they are dealt with before Parliament rises for recess.
In addition to legislative business, Parliament is scheduled to receive four ministers during the tenth parliamentary week.
The ministers are expected to answer 25 oral questions submitted by Members of Parliament as part of the House’s oversight responsibilities.
The planned Saturday sitting reflects Parliament’s determination to complete key legislative and oversight duties, particularly discussions on the government’s mid-year fiscal performance and the consideration of pending committee reports before the end of the current meeting.
