The Eastern South Regional Police Command has arrested 258 suspects in connection with the violent disturbances that erupted at Nsawam-Adoagyiri in the Eastern Region on Tuesday, July 7, 2026.
According to a press release issued by the Command’s Public Affairs Unit, the arrests were carried out during a joint intelligence-led operation involving personnel from the Eastern South Regional Police Command and a team from the Ghana Police Service’s National Operations Directorate.
The Police said preliminary investigations indicate that some youth involved in the disturbances allegedly looted several shops, set an Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) transformer on fire, vandalised the Oko Anadwo Palace and an astro turf facility, and robbed mobile money vendors.
The incidents reportedly caused widespread fear and panic among residents of the community, disrupting normal economic and social activities.
As part of the operation, Police officers recovered two locally manufactured firearms, quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, suspected tramadol and Viagra tablets, as well as several mobile phones believed to be relevant to the ongoing investigations.
The 258 suspects are currently in Police custody assisting investigators, while efforts continue to identify and apprehend any other individuals who may have been involved in the violence.
In the statement signed by the Eastern South Regional Public Affairs Officer, DSP David Fianko-Okyere, the Command assured residents that adequate security measures have been put in place to protect lives and property in Nsawam-Adoagyiri and surrounding communities.
The Police further appealed to members of the public to volunteer credible information that could aid ongoing investigations by reporting to the nearest Police Station.
The Command also cautioned residents, particularly the youth, to remain law-abiding and refrain from engaging in acts capable of undermining public peace, security, and social order.
The Ghana Police Service reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring that all persons found culpable in connection with the disturbances are brought to justice in accordance with the laws of Ghana.
