The Ghana Police Service has arrested a suspected member of an arms trafficking syndicate as part of an ongoing intelligence-led operation aimed at dismantling illegal firearms networks operating in Tema and other parts of the country.
According to the Police, the suspect, whose identity has been withheld to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigations, was arrested on Thursday July 9, 2026 after allegedly supplying an AK-47 assault rifle, a 9mm automatic pistol, and ammunition.
The recovered weapons include an AK-47 assault rifle bearing serial number AZ71551999, one magazine loaded with 10 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, and a 9mm automatic pistol.
The Police said all the items have been retrieved and secured as evidence to support ongoing investigations.
The arrest forms part of a broader intelligence-driven operation targeting an organised arms trafficking syndicate believed to be operating in Tema and extending its activities to other parts of the country.

The suspect remains in Police custody and is assisting with investigations.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service says efforts are underway to identify, locate and arrest other members of the syndicate as investigators work to dismantle the entire illegal arms trafficking network.
