The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested three Nigerian nationals suspected of belonging to a criminal syndicate allegedly responsible for a series of robberies targeting bank customers in Kumasi and its surrounding communities.
The suspects, identified as Aboy Promise, 30; Favour Uwalaka, 45; and Kingsley, alias KC, 35, were arrested during an intelligence-led operation involving personnel from the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters and the Accra Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (PID).
According to a press statement issued by the Ashanti Regional Police Command on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, the operation was conducted at about 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 31, 2026, by an IGP’s Special Team.
The first two suspects, Aboy Promise and Favour Uwalaka, were arrested at a hotel in Moshie Zongo, a suburb of Kumasi.
A search conducted in their hotel rooms led to the recovery of GH¢1,600 in cash, assorted mobile phones, a Royal motorbike and a master key believed to have been used to gain unauthorised access to vehicles belonging to victims.
Preliminary investigations by the police indicate that the suspects operated by monitoring banking premises, identifying customers who withdrew substantial amounts of money and subsequently trailing them before attacking and robbing them.
The syndicate is also suspected of breaking into unattended vehicles belonging to bank customers using a master key to steal cash and other valuables left inside.
During interrogation, the two suspects reportedly admitted their involvement in the robberies and mentioned two alleged accomplices identified as Chinedu, alias Alhaji, and Kingsley, alias KC.
The suspects subsequently led the police team to another hotel at Dechemso, another suburb of Kumasi, where Kingsley, 35, was arrested.
However, the fourth suspect, Chinedu, alias Alhaji, remains at large, with the police appealing to the public to provide credible information that could lead to his arrest.
The police statement further disclosed that the three arrested suspects admitted to robbing a victim of GH¢15,000 at Asokore Mampong on Tuesday, October 27, 2026.
The incident reportedly occurred after the victim had withdrawn the money from Kwamang Rural Bank.
They also allegedly admitted to involvement in similar robberies at the Atonsu branch of Fidelity Bank, the Ahodwo branch of Access Bank and other locations within Kumasi and its surrounding communities.
The admissions form part of preliminary investigations into the activities of the suspected criminal syndicate.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has urged residents to assist in the efforts to apprehend Chinedu, alias Alhaji, who is currently on the run.
Members of the public with credible information about his whereabouts have been encouraged to report to the nearest police station or contact the police through emergency numbers 191 and 112, or the toll-free MTN and Telecel line 18555.
The three arrested suspects have since been handed over to the Ashanti Regional Police Command and are assisting with ongoing investigations.
Meanwhile, the police have cautioned bank customers to remain vigilant, particularly when withdrawing large sums of money or conducting financial transactions at banking premises.
Customers have been advised to be alert to suspicious individuals around banks and avoid leaving cash or other valuables unattended in their vehicles.
The Command also commended members of the public for their continued cooperation and assured residents of its commitment to intensifying efforts to combat armed robbery and other criminal activities in the Ashanti Region.
The arrests are expected to support investigations into a series of reported robberies targeting bank customers in Kumasi and its environs.
