The Ghana Police Service has arrested six private security guards in connection with the shooting incident involving former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, at Kwabenya in the Greater Accra Region.
According to a press release issued by the Accra Regional Public Affairs Unit of the Ghana Police Service on Sunday, June 21, 2026, the arrests were made following preliminary investigations into the incident which reportedly left the former legislator injured.
Police disclosed that a subsequent search operation led to the retrieval of five pump-action guns, one Taurus pistol loaded with seven rounds of 9mm ammunition, an additional magazine loaded with five rounds of 9mm ammunition, as well as communication equipment believed to have been used by the suspects.
The police statement explained that personnel from the National Operations Directorate and the Intelligence Directorate, who were on special duty, responded to a distress call from a residence at Kwabenya where the incident occurred.
Preliminary investigations established that a ceremony was being held at the residence of Mr. Tamakloe Safo Jehoshaphat, also known as Akofena, when Hon. Adwoa Safo reportedly arrived and requested access to the premises but was allegedly denied entry.
The statement further indicated that armed security personnel stationed at the residence allegedly discharged firearms during the confrontation, resulting in injuries to the former MP.
Police also confirmed that Adwoa Safo’s vehicle sustained multiple gunshot marks during the incident.
The six suspects together with the retrieved weapons and other exhibits have since been transferred to the Police Headquarters to assist with ongoing investigations.
The Ghana Police Service noted that efforts are underway to identify and arrest all other persons connected to the shooting incident.
The case has generated significant public attention due to the involvement of the former legislator and daughter of founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission, Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka.
Police say investigations remain ongoing.
