Tensions are escalating in Beposo, a community in the Krachi Nchumburu District of the Oti Region, following a violent clash between two Konkomba groups that has left one person dead and six others injured.
The injured are currently receiving treatment at the Tamale Teaching Hospital, Krachi District Hospital, and Chinderi Hospital.
The deceased has been deposited at the Chinderi Hospital mortuary pending autopsy.
The violence has also led to significant destruction of property.
Several houses have been torched, motorbikes burned, and thousands of tubers of yam destroyed.
As of Wednesday, April 29, 2026, no arrests had been made in connection with the incident, which reportedly occurred in mid-April.
The Krachi Nchumburu District Chief Executive, Martin Kofi Anato, confirmed the development in an interview with Onua News’ Nsem Titire.
He explained that the conflict stemmed from a disputed parcel of land that both groups have been farming since 2023.
According to him, the matter was initially brought before the District Security Council (DISEC) for arbitration but was later referred to traditional authorities, who have jurisdiction over the land, for an amicable resolution.
He said the chiefs subsequently imposed a ban on all farming activities on the disputed land.
However, tensions flared when one faction allegedly defied the directive and resumed farming, prompting the opposing group to do the same triggering the clash.
Mr. Anato noted that although calm has been restored, tensions remain high due to the loss of life, injuries, and destruction of property, coupled with the lack of arrests.
He further disclosed that a meeting involving the Oti Regional Minister, John Kwadwo Gyapong, and the Member of Parliament for Krachi Nchumburu, Solomon Kuyon, resolved that perpetrators should be apprehended and prosecuted, but no action has yet been taken.
Reacting to the situation, the Adontenhene of Bejamsi, Nana Daniel Addo, warned of possible retaliation if the police fail to act swiftly.
While urging restraint, he gave the police until Monday, May 4, 2026, to make arrests, stating that those involved in the violence are known and have already been reported.
When contacted, the Chinderi District Police Commander, Matthew Kwadwo Akantoshie, confirmed that investigations are ongoing.
He referred further inquiries to the Oti Regional Police Public Relations Officer, DSP John Nchor, who declined to comment, citing the sensitive nature of the case.
He assured that the police would provide full details once investigations are concluded.
