The Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) has received one million barrels of Ghana’s indigenous Jubilee Medium Sweet Crude, marking another milestone in government’s efforts to revive the country’s only state owned refinery and strengthen local petroleum refining.
The crude cargo, delivered aboard MT Apache on July 15, 2026, fulfills President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to ensuring that crude oil produced in Ghana is refined locally to create value for the national economy.
According to a statement issued by TOR, the latest shipment is the second one million barrel consignment of Ghanaian indigenous crude supplied to the refinery under President Mahama’s leadership. The first was delivered in December 2016 aboard MT Bodeira during his first term in office.
The refinery noted that the latest delivery reflects the President’s long standing commitment to the strategic development of TOR and his vision of building an integrated petroleum value chain for Ghana.
“Today marks another significant milestone in the revitalization of Tema Oil Refinery as the Refinery receives one million barrels of Ghana’s indigenous Jubilee Sweet Crude,” the statement said.
It added that the latest shipment is the third one million barrel crude cargo received by TOR since May 2026, following earlier deliveries of Bonga and Baleine crude.
According to the refinery, the steady supply of crude has enabled it to sustain the production of petroleum products for both the domestic and regional markets, while contributing to Ghana’s energy security, industrialization and value addition agenda.
The Board, Management and Staff of TOR used the occasion to express appreciation to President Mahama for his support towards the refinery’s revival.
“We wish to express our profound gratitude to H.E. President John Dramani Mahama for his steadfast commitment, visionary leadership, and unwavering support for the revival of Ghana’s only state owned refinery. His confidence in TOR continues to inspire us to deliver operational excellence in service to the nation,” the statement said.
TOR also commended the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, for his role in restoring refining operations.
The refinery described the Minister’s leadership as instrumental in ensuring a reliable supply of crude oil and advancing the refinery’s operational recovery.
In addition, TOR acknowledged the contributions of its partners across the petroleum value chain, including crude suppliers Fujeirah and Triangle Trading Commodities, regulators, financiers, logistics providers and technical partners for supporting the refinery’s resurgence.
Reaffirming its long term commitment, TOR said it remains focused on delivering the President’s vision of strengthening the connection between Ghana’s upstream and downstream petroleum sectors.
The refinery said its ongoing operations will help create jobs, enhance national energy security, reduce dependence on imported refined petroleum products and position Ghana as a competitive refining hub in West Africa.
