The Ghana Police Service has arrested two individuals in the Oti Region for unlawful possession of a firearm and a large cache of ammunition, following an intelligence-led operation.
The suspects, identified as Richard Kpimbi, 27, and Latif Adam, 20, were apprehended on April 29, 2026, by the Nkwanta Municipal Police Command at the Brewaniase Police barrier near Dambai.
According to police, the two were traveling in a Kia Rhino truck with registration number GW 9927-13 when officers intercepted the vehicle.
Kpimbi was driving the truck, while Adam was serving as the driver’s mate.
A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered a significant quantity of weapons and ammunition concealed under tarpaulins in plastic sacks and boxes.
The items retrieved included one Adler pump-action shotgun, 7,000 AAA cartridges, 3,000 BB cartridges, and 1,124 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition.
Police say the suspects are currently in custody and assisting with ongoing investigations, while all seized items have been retained as exhibits for further action.
The Police Service has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining public safety and has urged members of the public to provide credible information to aid in the fight against crime.
