The High Commissioner of Ghana to the United Kingdom and Ireland, Mrs. Sabah Zita Benson, on Friday, April 24, 2026, met with Ghanaian lawyers living and practising in the UK to discuss ways they could support the Ghanaian community through the High Commission.
The meeting followed an earlier engagement between the High Commissioner and the Ghanaian Lawyers’ Group, during which the High Commission appealed to lawyers in the diaspora to contribute their expertise to strengthen support for Ghanaians in the host country.
At the meeting, the lawyers expressed their readiness to collaborate with the High Commission, agreeing to volunteer as a readily available resource to provide legal advice and assistance to members of the Ghanaian community in the United Kingdom.
They further pledged to participate in the High Commissioner’s planned town hall meetings, where they will assist in addressing a range of legal issues affecting Ghanaians and residents of Ghanaian origin.
Speaking after the discussions, Mrs. Sabah Zita Benson reiterated the mission’s commitment to deepening consular services and ensuring that Ghanaians in the UK receive timely guidance and support, particularly in moments of legal need.
The High Commissioner also disclosed plans to develop a comprehensive database of professionals, including lawyers, doctors, social workers, nurses, and other relevant service providers, on a single platform to enable the High Commission to reach out for assistance during emergencies involving any Ghanaian.
She explained that the initiative would enhance coordination and response to urgent matters, while also creating a structured support network for the community.
The High Commission expressed appreciation to the lawyers for agreeing to serve in a voluntary capacity, describing it as a demonstration of commitment to community welfare and solidarity.
