President John Dramani Mahama has officially cut the sod for the construction of an interconnecting concourse between Terminals 2 and 3 at the Kotoka International Airport, marking the start of a significant infrastructure project aimed at easing congestion and boosting Ghana’s aviation capacity.
The project is expected to enhance passenger flow and strengthen the country’s position as a leading aviation hub in West Africa.
Speaking at the ceremony, President Mahama emphasized that the initiative is more than a ceremonial undertaking, describing it as a strategic investment in operational efficiency, improved passenger experience, and Ghana’s long-term economic growth.

He highlighted the steady increase in passenger traffic, which rose from 1.8 million in 2022 to 2.5 million in 2025, as evidence of Ghana’s expanding global connectivity and growing appeal as a destination for business and tourism.
Despite these gains, the President acknowledged mounting pressure on airport operations, particularly during peak travel periods.
He noted that congestion continues to affect service delivery, making timely infrastructure upgrades critical to maintaining efficiency.
The planned concourse will include modern passenger boarding bridges, expanded waiting areas, VIP lounges, retail outlets, and upgraded service facilities.
Once completed, it is expected to allow seamless movement between Terminals 2 and 3, significantly improving overall airport operations and passenger convenience.
