More than 100 Branch Women Organisers and women executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Assin Central Constituency of the Central Region have called for the election of a Constituency Women Organiser who will place the welfare, empowerment and development of women at the centre of the party’s activities.
Addressing a press conference, the women said the next Constituency Women Organiser must be committed to addressing the challenges confronting women and ensuring they benefit from the party’s programmes before, during and after elections.
According to the group, women remain the backbone of the NDC’s grassroots mobilisation, playing critical roles in campaigning, voter education and party organisation. However, they lamented that many women are often neglected after elections despite their immense contributions to the party’s success.
They stressed that the constituency requires a proactive, compassionate and visionary leader who will consistently engage women, advocate for their interests and create opportunities that will improve their economic and social well-being.
The women organisers also underscored the importance of unity among female members of the party, noting that a united women’s wing would strengthen the NDC’s grassroots structures and enhance the party’s electoral fortunes in the constituency.
As part of their call, the group unanimously endorsed Madam Lydia Archer for the position of Assin Central NDC Constituency Women Organiser, describing her as a hardworking, selfless and dedicated leader with a proven commitment to improving the lives of women.
According to them, although Madam Archer does not currently occupy the office of Constituency Women Organiser, she has consistently demonstrated her commitment to women through various humanitarian and community support initiatives.
They cited her contributions in providing financial assistance to women, supporting educational programmes, facilitating healthcare interventions and undertaking several community development projects, saying these efforts have earned her the admiration and confidence of branch executives throughout the constituency.
The organisers expressed confidence that Madam Archer possesses the leadership qualities needed to unite women within the party, strengthen grassroots mobilisation and champion policies that would positively impact women and children across Assin Central.
They therefore appealed to delegates to give Madam Archer overwhelming support when nominations are opened and elections are held, insisting that her leadership would inject renewed energy, inclusiveness and commitment into the women’s wing of the party.
Responding to the endorsement, Madam Lydia Archer officially announced her intention to contest for the position of NDC Constituency Women Organiser for Assin Central.
She expressed heartfelt appreciation to the branch women organisers for the confidence they had shown in her and pledged to live up to their expectations if elected.
Madam Archer said empowering women has always been her passion, adding that she has dedicated several years to supporting vulnerable women through financial assistance, educational sponsorship, healthcare interventions and other community-based initiatives.
She assured party members that if given the mandate, she would work closely with branch executives, polling station executives and the constituency leadership to strengthen the women’s wing and intensify grassroots mobilisation.
She also pledged to create more opportunities for women and young girls through empowerment programmes aimed at improving their socio-economic conditions while promoting active participation in party activities.
According to Madam Archer, her leadership would be guided by the principles of unity, inclusiveness and equal opportunities, assuring members that no woman would be left behind under her administration.
She concluded by appealing to delegates and women across the constituency to support her candidature when nominations are officially opened, promising to work tirelessly to protect and advance the welfare, interests and aspirations of women in Assin Central.
