The Ghana Police Service has issued a strong caution to final year students across the country ahead of the completion of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), urging candidates to celebrate responsibly and avoid any form of unlawful behaviour after their final papers.
In a statement released ahead of the nationwide completion of the examination on Friday, June 19, 2026, the Police reminded students that acts of violence, vandalism, arson, assault, and other criminal activities could have serious consequences capable of destroying their academic and future career prospects.
According to the Service, while the completion of WASSCE marks an important milestone in the lives of students, celebrations must be conducted peacefully and within the confines of the law.
The Police warned that any student found engaging in criminal conduct would be arrested and prosecuted without hesitation.
“The Service reminds students that acts of violence, vandalism, arson, assault, and any other unlawful conduct carry serious criminal consequences that can permanently jeopardise their futures and derail the academic careers they have worked hard to build,” the statement emphasized.
The caution follows recent incidents of student unrest recorded in the Upper East Region, which led to the arrest of six students from two senior high schools.
At Zebilla Senior High Technical School, two students were arrested in connection with the alleged arson of a teacher’s apartment, an incident that shocked both school authorities and residents in the area.
In a separate case at Bawku Senior High School, four students were apprehended over alleged involvement in rioting, assault on school staff, and the destruction of both school and private property.
The Ghana Police Service expressed concern over the increasing trend of post-examination disturbances in some schools and stressed the need for students to exhibit discipline and maturity after completing their examinations.
The Service further called on parents, guardians, teachers, and school authorities to collaborate in ensuring peaceful celebrations and maintaining order within school communities.
According to the Police, promoting a culture of discipline, respect, and peace among students remains critical in safeguarding lives, protecting property, and preserving the reputation of educational institutions across the country.
As thousands of candidates prepare to conclude this year’s WASSCE, the Police say security personnel will remain on high alert to prevent any disturbances and ensure law and order is maintained nationwide.
