The Central Region Police Command has launched an investigation into a tragic road traffic accident at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) campus that claimed the life of a 22-year-old student.
The incident occurred when a Scania Marcopolo bus, registration number GS 5170-18, driven by 46-year-old Amos Agyei, was traveling from the UCC campus toward Cape Coast town.
According to preliminary police reports, the accident unfolded as follows:
While navigating a section of the road on the UCC campus, the bus ran over Kwaku Mensah, a Level 200 student.
Mensah was a pillion rider on a motorbike at the time of the incident.
The impact caused him to fall from the bike, landing in the middle of the roadway.
The victim sustained severe bodily injuries and was immediately rushed to the University of Cape Coast Hospital.
Tragically, the medical officer on duty pronounced him dead on arrival.
Chief Inspector Isaac Evans Ettie of the Public Affairs Unit, Central Region Police Command, confirmed that officers visited the scene shortly after receiving the report.
